What is CBD?

Short for cannabidiol, CBD is a compound, known as a cannabinoid, that’s derived from cannabis plants. It’s found most abundantly in hemp, and consumers across the world have long since raved about its beneficial and potential medicinal properties. It’s most commonly used to promote general wellness by improving certain aspects of our lives.

What are cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids can be found in cannabis plants, though they’re more specifically called phytocannabinoids. The cannabinoids we naturally produce in our bodies are endocannabinoids; an important distinction. Phytocannabinoids found in plants are the active compounds that account for most of the benefits we experience from hemp or marijuana, though terpenes and other plant compounds do play their own beneficial role.

What’s the difference between hemp, cannabis, and marijuana?

Often confused for the same thing, hemp and marijuana are two different types of plants from the overall cannabis plant family. The 2018 Farm Bill changed the legal definition of hemp to mean any cannabis strain that contains less than 0.3% THC, so any cannabis strain containing more than that limit is considered marijuana.

While marijuana is still part of the Controlled Substances Act on a federal level, hemp was removed from this list through the Farm Bill, and states were given the right to determine their own industrial hemp plans from there. There are some states that have restricted the sale and use of hemp products, but federally, hemp-derived products are legal for cultivation, use, and sale when following all proper US regulations.

Can CBD or hemp products get you high?

The 0.3% maximum limit means industrial hemp can only contain negligible levels of THC, making it unlikely to get high from a hemp-derived CBD product. However, the short answer is “no,” CBD and other legal hemp-derived products should not be able to get you high because they can’t contain enough THC to do so. Our products contain non-detectable levels of THC, further ensuring you don’t have to worry about the psychoactive effects of that compound.

What is the endocannabinoid system?

The human body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) is believed to help promote homeostasis. It may be the system responsible for influencing a wide array of other bodily functions by producing endocannabinoids that interact with the cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2, as well as other receptors across the body. These endocannabinoids are almost identical molecularly to the phytocannabinoids we find in cannabis plants, including CBD and THC.

How does CBD work?

The fact that phytocannabinoids are almost molecularly identical to endocannabinoids is what researchers believe may be what causes CBD to affect the body the way it does. CBD may interact directly with the ECS and indirectly by interacting with enzymes and receptors outside of the ECS.

Are CBD products THC-free?

Not every CBD product on the market is THC-free, but ours are. In fact, some brands will say they offer a THC-free product but don’t consistently batch-test to prove this accurate and true. Every batch of our products is tested through an independent, third-party lab with results always indicating that they contain non-detectable levels of THC – which is as THC-free as you can get!

Are there trace amounts of THC in a hemp extract?

Some raw hemp extracts could contain trace amounts of THC. However, through our refinement and removal steps of the process, there are no detectable levels of THC in the final products.

What does broad-spectrum mean?

Our products being THC-free ties back into the broad-spectrum definition we’re proud to sport. Products are often referred to as an isolate, broad-spectrum, full-spectrum, or whole plant extract. Broad-spectrum is the full use of hemp’s compounds, including terpenes, flavonoids, and cannabinoids other than just CBD.

However, the difference between broad-spectrum and a full-spectrum or whole plant extract is that we refine the hemp extract to contain non-detectable levels of THC, as well as rid it of unwanted plant compounds like chlorophyll and wax. In our opinion, a broad-spectrum extract is the perfect in-between; you can stay confident that it’s THC-free without missing out on the other hemp compounds like you do with a CBD isolate.

What are other cannabinoids?

Excluding THC and CBD, there are over 60 other phytocannabinoids found in cannabis plants. Most are found in negligible amounts, but CBN, CBG, CBC, and other non-psychoactive cannabinoids have started to make a more noticeable appearance thanks to genetic plant manipulation.

What are flavonoids?

We’re proud that our broad-spectrum CBD products contain other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids to amplify the experience. Found in almost all vegetables and fruits, flavonoids are the largest group of phytonutrients – some 6,000+ types strong. They’re responsible for the vivid colors’ plants have and may have properties of their own that help improve CBD’s own benefits.

What are terpenes?

Not just found in cannabis plants, terpenes are found in a variety of herbs and vegetation that humans utilize. Aromatic molecules, the terpene profile of a hemp strain is what gives it its unique smell and flavor composition. Individual terpenes may also carry their own beneficial properties, leading to a more intense entourage effect.

What is the entourage effect?

Coined in the ‘90s, the entourage effect is the concept of various cannabis compounds working synergistically to amplify the plant’s overall properties. By combining CBD with other compounds, like other cannabinoids as well as terpenes and flavonoids, we’re able to take advantage of the entourage effect.

Do you have lab reports on your hemp products?

Absolutely, and we’re proud to show them off! Every batch of our broad-spectrum CBD products are tested through a third-party, independent lab. You can view lab reports for each batch directly on our web platform in the Lab Results section. Click here to be taken to that section now.

Can CBD treat or cure you?

Unfortunately, hemp products aren’t a cure-all. We need more research and clinical trials with human participants for further proof of CBD’s benefits. In the meantime, people continue to take it to relieve a variety of ailments and symptoms. Not a cure, it could still benefit you to take CBD, though we recommend speaking with a certified medical professional before you incorporate it into your daily routine, especially if you’re already taking prescription medication.

Can you take too much CBD?

In a 2017 comprehensive review of relevant animal studies and clinical data, it was found that CBD can be taken in quantities larger than an entire month’s supply of CBD with little to no side effects. As cannabidiol is non-toxic and non-psychoactive, there is not a dose high enough to make it fatal. However, taking too much CBD could cause drowsiness as well as other mild side effects.

Are there side effects with CBD?

As stated just above, too much CBD in one serving could cause drowsiness. Besides that, some mild side effects can include dry mouth and/or a fluctuation in blood pressure. There are no inherently negative side effects for CBD, but large servings may deter you from focusing if your intention is to stay alert.

How much CBD should you take each day?

To prevent drowsiness, we recommend never exceeding the recommended daily serving size for our CBD products. This will easily mitigate any chances there are to mild side effects. However, those new to CBD or those that know they’re sensitive to cannabinoids may want to start with half a serving size. After a few weeks of consistent use, you can find your personal tolerance to our CBD and determine your preferred serving size from there.

How should CBD products be stored?

All hemp-derived products, including our broad-spectrum CBD, should be stored in cool places that don’t come into direct sunlight or heat exposure, as this can degrade the potency of the compounds found within. Our best recommendation is to refrigerate CBD products in their original airtight containers to retain their potency.

Do CBD products expire?

While CBD doesn’t have an expiration date, our products do have a stable shelf life of about 18 months. Over time, the compounds in our formulas can degrade. While the method you use to store the CBD can help to retain these compounds, time will still cause them to break down if they’re not used within a certain amount of time.

Does CBD show up on a drug test?

As our products contain a non-detectable amount of THC, they are not expected to cause someone to fail a drug test. However, overconsumption of any product with even minimal traces of THC can stack the level of THC in your system over time. We can only provide you with a thorough lab report indicating there’s no THC in our products, which is determined through sophisticated testing methods.

Can CBD interact with other medications?

CBD has the potential to interact with other medications, especially if they’re related to blood pressure. Heaven’s Organics does not provide any medical advice; we must advise that you speak with a certified medical professional before your incorporate CBD into your daily routine.

How long does it take to feel benefits or effects from CBD products?

Here’s the reality of trying CBD: you may not feel anything the first day. Relief is often described as immediate – but more often than not, people don’t feel the full extent of what CBD can do for them until the third or fourth week of taking it consistently every day. Personal results vary due to weight, sensitivity to cannabinoids, CBD serving strength, and much more, but our community typically experiences a world of difference after the first month of taking CBD compared to just a few days of daily use.
